CHANNELS- with Dancer Daria Kaufman and composer Richard Warp,July 6th and 7th, 8 p.m. at Shotwell Studios in SF

Dancers Daria Kaufman, Bianca Brzezinski, and musician/composer Richard Warp are pleased to present their own evening of original dance theater and live music exploring communication and consciousness. They will be performing ARTI ULATE, which had its highly praised San Francisco premiere at NOHspace's Sound is the Movement Series in February, and Bianca Brzezinski's haunting solo Non-Self, performed at Mountain View Center for the Performing Arts in 2011. Richard Warp accompanies with live electronic sound and improvised piano.

"BayAreaDanceWatch saw ARTI ULATE in San Francisco on a Monday night and was right back in the front row Tuesday...it was that witty in both words and abstract movements, layered together in an engaging and skillful manner by these young, talented performers." - Jim Tobin, bayareadancewatch.com

Each work breaks ground in terms of cross-disciplinary collaboration and performance.
ARTI ULATE, a dance theater piece which incorporates improvisation and interactive sound technology, is about unravelling communication barriers while struggling to convey one's inner world within the limits of conventional language. Dancers Daria Kaufman and Bianca Brzezinski interact through movement, speech, and text, while musician/composer Richard Warp acts as accompaniment and intruder, amplifying and underscoring their coupled dynamic. Through highly articulate dancing, deconstructed speech, and striking, electronic sound, all three performers engage in a fractured dialogue, breaking boundaries between disciplines in an effort to reach a new form of language.

Bianca Brzezinski's solo, Non-self (from the Buddhist term 'annata'), refers to the notion of not-self. Exploring consciousness, it is a work about death and our state of impermanence. When looking at death as a transformation, we can begin to sense our lives as a form of consciousness that dwells within all beings - a non-self that dies every second, that is present, that is nature itself embodied, consciously renewing itself. Richard Warp accompanies her on prepared piano.
